LibQUAL+ Comments and Responses, 2011: LibQUAL+ Comments and Responses, 2011 part 2

During Spring 2011, many students responded with helpful comments on the LibQUAL+ survey. These comments represent many of those received by the library. Thank you for sharing this information with the library!

Winner of the iPad 2011: Taryn Griffiths

Temperature

Undergraduate: Second year; Health Sciences...I love the library but sometimes its too cold! Cant stay for long period of time because of it

Undergraduate: Second year; Biomedical... I can't even go in without wearing jeans, jacket and think socks! It definitely deters me from going when it's so cold.

The library is sorry that you are not comfortable..  Let us know the next time you are cold and we will notify UCF Facilities and Operations, who maintain the library and other buildings on campus. Books and technology do better in cooler temperatures, but it would be good to find a happy medium in which people can comfortably coexist with them.

QUIET

Undergraduate: Third year; Engineering / Computer Science...  Going to the library when you need to study is a miserable experience. Patrons are too loud, and even on the quiet floor respect is not given to those who prefer quietness. Also, people seem to feel that if they are not on the quiet floor, screaming is allowed (which it is, in effect). It's a library. It should be quiet all over.....  do more to help the @#&%' s get the message.

Faculty: Assistant Professor; Humanities  The library could go further to enforce quiet study and restrict food consumption in study area.  So many students treat the library as a cafeteria or social space that one often gets books or other resources and leaves quickly since it is too distracting to work or study in the library

Undergraduate: Fifth year and above; Science / Math....   I would like the fourth floor to be quiter, people violate this quite floor all the time and it makes it hard to study, thanks.

The library apologizes for the inconvenience caused by excessive loud conversation, cell phone use on the floor of the library.  It is unfortunate that library staff cannot be in all locations on a periodic basis to monitor the noise level.  Patrons are invited to ask the offending parties to quiet down and to contact Circulation Services or Ask A Librarian with a precise location for the problem.  We recognize that this is not a completely satisfying resolution.  The library does post signs and inform students of the quiet atmosphere on 4th floor. Please, students, respect others.

Wireless connection

Undergraduate: Third year; Science / Math...    FIX THE WIRELESS ..... pLEASE

The library has created a guide to using the wireless connection on campus:  http://libanswers.ucf.edu/a.php?qid=78795   Many students attempt to quickly login as a "guest".  There are a limited number of guest connections, and those are quickly occupied.  So please login as a member of the UCF community for the opportunity to get a better connection.  During the first part of the semester this year (2012) a section of the Circulation Services Desk offers assistance with connecting to the Internet and other technology questions.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Faculty: Assistant Professor; Science / Math  ...I am especially impressed with the rapid and efficient Inter LIbrary Loan system.

Undergraduate: Fourth year; Social Sciences / Psychology...extremely useful especially the interlibrary loans which were same day in most cases.

Undergraduate: Fourth year; Nursing ... when using the Interlibrary Loan feature, once in awhile I do not receive my requests in a timely manner.  Would like to see these requests expedited

Undergraduate: Second year; Business  It was weird that when I wanted a book from Rosen, I had to fill out this HUGE transfer request, when it's linked to our campus.

UCF's Interlibrary Loan (ILL) has increased its delivery  speed every year for the past 7 years.  However, the delivery of a book or an article, even electronically, sometimes depends on the library from whom UCF is receiving the materials, and other factors as well.  Your free ILLIAD account ( http://library.ucf.edu/ILL/) lets you track the progress of your request, and you can always email UCF's ILL with questions about delivery.  UCF ILL  will continue to work on efficiency.   It's true: borrowing from the Rosen or regional campuses requires the same level of detail on the ILLIAD request form that borrowing from non-uUCF libraries does.  ILL wants you to receive the item you request.  The details allow ILL to fill your request at another library if Rosen or the regional campuses cannot fill it.
