Searching for Theses and Dissertations using Print Indexes

The UCF Library owns very few non-UCF titles, except for those on health and physical education. However, the Library has several print indexes to identify existing theses and dissertations which exist, enabling patrons to initiate interlibrary loan requests.

  • American Doctoral Dissertations - An author, title, date, and institution listing of doctoral degrees granted in the U.S. and Canada arranged by broad subject headings.  No abstracts.  Most of the dissertations are also listed in Dissertation Abstracts International and Dissertation Abstracts Online. Library owns 1955-1998. Preceded by Doctoral Dissertations Accepted by American Universities, 1933-55 (Index AS 30 .M52). INDEX AS30.A43

  • Comprehensive Dissertation Index - Keyword indexes within 24 broad subject areas. Lists author, title, date, granting institution, length and Dissertation Abstracts International number so the abstract may be retrieved. Library owns volumes covering dissertations 1861 to 2002. INDEX AS30.X473

  • Dissertation Abstracts International (DAI) - Author written abstracts of doctoral dissertations submitted to University Microfilms International by over 500 participating institutions in North America.  Includes Part A: Humanities and Social Sciences and Part B: Sciences and Engineering. Library owns from v.1, 1938 to v.64, 2004. INDEX AS30.M5

  • Health, Physical Education and Recreation Microform Publications Index - A subject and author index to microfiche copies of Masters theses and Ph.D dissertations. The Library owns most indexed titles on microfiche from 1977 to the present.  They are accessible through UCF's Library catalog and have specific subject headings and unique Library of Congress call numbers. Library owns index from v.2, 1965 to v.1, 1992. REF GV201.H422

  • Masters Abstracts - Author written abstracts of selected Masters theses available on microfilm from University Microfilms International. Library owns v.7, 1969 to v.20, 1982 only. INDEX LB2385.M42
