Adult Literacy & Lifeskills (ALL) - "an international comparative study designed to provide participating countries, including the United States, with information about the skills of their adult populations."

Civic Education Study (CivEd) - "conducted in 1999, provides information on U.S. ninth-graders' knowledge of democratic practices and institutions and on how it compares with the knowledge of students in 27 other participating countries. In addition, CivEd provides data about U.S. ninth-grade students’ attitudes toward democracy, national identity, international relations, and social cohesion and diversity."

International Comparison of Education (ICE) - "NCES supports a variety of activities to provide statistical data for cross-national comparisons of education. These activities focus on 2 major areas: indicators and assessments."

Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) - "a system of international assessments that focus on 15-year-olds' capabilities in reading literacy, mathematics literacy, and science literacy. PISA also includes measures of general or cross-curricular competencies such as learning strategies."

Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) - "focuses on the achievement and reading experiences of children in 35 countries in grades equivalent to fourth grade in the United States. The study includes a written test of reading comprehension and a series of questionnaires focusing on the factors associated with the development of reading literacy."

Trends in International Mathematics & Science Study (TIMSS) - "TIMSS (formerly known as the Third International Mathematics and Science Study) is a study of classrooms across the country and around the world. TIMSS provides trend data on students' mathematics and science achievement from an international perspective."
