SelectedWorks Sunsetting

SelectedWorks profiles being sunset effective December 31, 2024

Elsevier announced that SelectedWorks will be sunset on Dec. 31, 2024. The UCF Libraries is sharing the following information from Elsevier, as well as alternative options to consider for your future profile needs.

From Elsevier

We’d like to let you know that we will be sunsetting free SelectedWorks profiles on December 31, 2024, after which date profiles and their contents will no longer be accessible.

For more than 20 years, SelectedWorks profiles have been used by scholars to make their research available to a worldwide audience, so we understand this announcement may be unexpected. However, Elsevier made the strategic decision to focus more of their resources on supporting scholars via their institutions through the Digital Commons suite.

If you would like to access your SelectedWorks profile before the shutdown, you can do so at: https://works.bepress.com/profile/.

You can also sign in from your profile page. If you are viewing your profile, click on the menu in the upper right hand corner and select Login.

If you do not remember your password, you can use the “Forgot your password?” link to reset it. Please contact egs-support@elsevier.com if you need assistance.

We thank you for your support and use of SelectedWorks over the years and will continue to communicate regularly to keep you informed.

Sincerely,
The Elsevier Digital Commons Team

What does this retirement mean for active SelectedWorks (works.bepress.com) users?

All SelectedWorks profiles will be completely removed from the web effective December 31, 2024

What do I need to do before December 2024?

In order to retain a copy of your works or statistics, we recommend that you:

  • Log in at https://works.bepress.com/profile/
  • Save a copy of all of your content by importing into a compatible reference manager (e.g., Zotero) and/or manually adding to a compatible storage solution (e.g., your device or cloud storage). This includes content published to your Selected Works profile and uploaded to your SW drive.
  • Visit your Author Dashboard and save any metrics you would like to retain
  • You can assign delegates to act on your behalf to assist with the process:
    • Make sure you are logged into your SelectedWorks site.
    • Click on the menu in the upper right hand corner and select Access Management.
    • In the Delegates box, add the first and last names and the email address of the person that you would like to be able to make changes for you. Click Add.
    • Please note: Your delegates will be able to make any and all changes to your site (including uploading/removing content and adding/revising personal information).

For additional guidance with the above, see SelectedWorks Guide for Authors.

What can I do to prepare?

  • Consider alternatives to your SelectedWorks profile
  • Determine what metrics and content you want to save from your profile
  • Update your email signature and any other locations that link to your SelectedWorks

What will happen after December 2024?

  • All pages and metrics will be permanently removed, and we will be unable to provide any assistance regarding SelectedWorks profiles or the Expert Gallery Suite. If you would like to create a copy, it is very important that you save your content and any data in advance.
  • If you would like to access your SelectedWorks profile before the shutdown, you can do so at: https://works.bepress.com/profile/
  • If you do not remember your password, you can use the “Forgot your password?” link to reset it. Please contact egs-support@elsevier.com if you need assistance.

If you have questions about SelectedWorks retirement, please email stars@ucf.edu

Does the SelectedWorks Sunset impact STARS?

No. STARS is UCF's institutional repository and open access publishing platform. STARS makes it possible for works by, for, and about the University of Central Florida to be hosted and viewed in one place.

SelectedWorks is a tool for individuals to highlight and promote personal scholarly and creative activity by providing access to works, research interests, and accomplishments. These profiles are linked to from within STARS, but reside on a separate platform. The decision to sunset the SelectedWorks feature was made by Elsevier, not by UCF.

Questions?

If you have any questions about the SelectedWorks sunset, please contact stars@ucf.edu

If you have questions about which profile or content tool might be a good fit for your research and scholarship, please contact Sarah Norris, Scholarly Communication Librarian.
