JOU3184 - Metro Reporting: Analyzing a Company

Initial Steps for Analysis of a Company

How do you know what information is particularly relevant when analyzing companies in a specific industry?

  • Select the link in the "About a Company" box for "General Information"
  • Select the link in the "Other Resources..." box for "NetAdvantage (S&P)"
  • In the Quick Links in the right column, select the industry from the dropdown options, e.g., "Healthcare: Pharmaceuticals", "Healthcare: Managed Care", or "Biotechnology"
  • In the specific industry survey, select the link for "How to analyze a pharmaceuticals company" (or whichever industry you've selected)
  • Read through the "How to analyze..." information carefully and print it out (or take very good notes) so that you have it handy when looking at other resources
  • Read through the rest of the industry profile, which includes comparative data about some of the leading companies

Look within NetAdvantage for information about your specific company:

  • From the options at the top of the screen, select the tab for Campanies and search the Company Profile for a company by its ticker
  • There is much more information available about the company than just the Business Summary and Company Fact Sheet that appear in the center of the screen. Be sure to explore the selections in the left column, especially:
    • Estimates & Opinions
    • How to Analyze
    • Compustat Excel Analytics
