This database includes the following types of documents:

(1) Primary law -- Treaties establishing the Communities; Annexes and Protocols, Treaties of accession of the new Member States; the Single Act; the Treaty on European Union.

(2) International Agreements -- Agreements between the European Communities and other countries which result from external relations maintained by the Communities.

(3) Community Legal Instruments -- Secondary legislation or law adopted by the Council and the Commission, whether binding or not. This includes regulations, directives, decisions, ECSC recommendations, opinions, resolutions, and some communications and reports.

(4) Supplementary Legislation -- International agreements between Member States in order to implement treaty provisions, and decisions of the representatives of the governments of Member States meeting within the Council.

(5) Preparatory acts -- Commission proposals; preparatory acts under the ECSC Treaty; communications, reports, programmes; opinions of the European Parliament; opinions and recommendations of the ESC and the Committee of the Regions; opinions of the Court of Auditors.

(6) Parliamentary questions -- References to questions addressed by Members of Parliament to the Commission or the Council (written and oral) at question time.

(7) National provisions implementing directives -- Cross-references to national journals containing details of the national provisions enacted in Member States in order to implement the directives of the European Communities.

(8) Merger decisions -- a recent expansion of this database offers text of merger decisions based on Article 6.1(a) and 6.1 (b) of Regulation 4064/89 which are not published in the Official Journal.

(9) EFTA Documents -- Documents from the European Free-Trade Association institutions (EFTA Court and EEA Surveillance Authority), published in the Official Journal are now included in this database. The documents date from 1994. These documents are generally noted at the top of the document as "EFTA Documents," and can be readily found by an "author(efta)" search.

(10) Other or Miscellaneous Official Journal Documents -- Notices and information-type documents, generally abstract or keywords only.
