A stroke is an interruption of the blood supply to any part of the brain. In 2022, stroke was the fourth leading cause of death in Florida. The age-adjusted death rate from stroke was 47.6 per 100,000 population. This is an increase from 2012, when there was a rate of 32 deaths per 100,000 population. In 2022, the age-adjusted hospitalization rate from stroke was 235.8 per 100,000 population. In addition, 3.6% of Floridians have been told they had ever experienced a stroke in Florida during 2022.
