Access to Westlaw at UCF is limited to students enrolled in the introductory Legal Research course PLA3108 so that they can become aware of what information is available in the database and learn a little bit about how to conduct searches. For research needs beyond that introduction and for other legal studies courses the students should use the library's subscription to Nexis Uni (formerly LexisNexis Academic) or the print resources in the John C. Hitt Library.
Legal Studies faculty teaching PLA3108 Legal Research issue separate accounts to each enrolled student; the accounts cannot be shared between students. There are a limited number of simultaneous user accounts so they should be set to expire at the end of the Westlaw introduction assignment so that they can be reallocated to other students in other sections of the class during that same semester. The accounts must be set to expire no later than the end of the semester during which PLA3108 is being taken; use of the account cannot carry over to other courses.
