Law Enforcement and Correctional Officer Practices; Requires application for employment or appointment as law enforcement or correctional officer to contain specified disclosures; requires background investigation of applicant to include specified information; requires employing agencies to maintain employment information for minimum period; requires establishment of standards for officer training & policies concerning use of force; requires law enforcement agencies to establish policies for specified use of force investigations; requires investigation to include an independent report; requires report to be submitted to state attorney; requires law enforcement agencies to submit specified data to FDLE; prohibits child younger than certain age from being arrested, charged, or adjudicated delinquent for delinquent act or violation of law.

All full-time, part-time, or auxiliary officers shall successfully complete at least 40 hours of in-service training or Advanced, Specialized, or Career Development Training courses every four years.

In late 2022, FDLE will begin publishing detailed and dynamic crime data providing information needed to make law enforcement more effective and our communities safer. This expanded set of data, Florida Incident-Based Reporting System (FIBRS), will be an important indicator of crime in our communities. This data can be used by law enforcement agencies to target their resources more effectively, by governments to guide policy, and by researchers and the public working to understand crime trends.

Every year since 1980, BJS has extracted justice expenditure and employment data from the Census Bureau's Annual Government Finance Survey and Annual Survey of Public Employment. BJS publishes these data in the Justice Expenditure and Employment Extracts series, which presents estimates of government expenditures and employment for the following justice categories: police protection, all judicial and legal functions (including prosecution, courts, and public defense), and corrections. This series includes data for national, federal, state, and large local governments (counties with populations of 500,000 or more and cities with populations of 300,000 or more).

The National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD) hosts several large-scale datasets, including the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), the FBI's National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), and the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (PHDCN).

Implemented to improve the overall quantity and quality of crime data collected by law enforcement, NIBRS captures more detailed information on each single crime occurrence. NIBRS’ first annual compilation of published data covered calendar year 2011. NIBRS data has also been used to publish some specialized topical crime reports.

The Orlando Police Department used force 3,100 times from 2010 to 2014 - more than double the rate of some similarly sized agencies. The city and its insurer paid $3.6 million in police-brutality claims.

The Police-Public Contact Survey (PPCS) provides detailed information on the characteristics of persons who had some type of contact with police during the past year, including those who contacted the police to report a crime or were pulled over in a traffic stop. The PPCS interviews a nationally representative sample of residents age 16 or older as a supplement to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). The survey provides information with which to examine citizens' perceptions of police behavior and response during these encounters.
