Miguel Coyula has made various digital films. He is a pioneer in using digital technology. His digital films include Red Cockroaches (2003), made on a small budget. He continues to produce digitally-produced films, such as his documentary Nadie (2017) and Corazón Azul (2021), often utilizing the digital medium for its artistic and technical possibilities.
His 2024 digital film, Chronicles of the Absurd, is considered a powerful narrative about the conditions on the island. The film engages with the absurdity of the society which leads to an artistic and intellectual form of starvation via suppression. The film contends with a hunger for free expression. Filmed using non-state-approved clandestine footage, the narrative interweaves themes of censorship, scarcity, and resilience. Visual material was gathered between 2011 and 2024 on a zero budget. The independent film includes digital animations, photography, texts, and secret digital recordings.
