Use the Library catalog (the Books/Catalog link on the Libraries homepage) to locate books and other media in the UCF Libraries. You can search by author, title, keyword, or subject.

See the streaming videos Finding Books by Title, Finding Books by Subject, and NetLibrary for a demonstration of using the Library catalog.

  • To search for a person, as AUTHOR or SUBJECT, search by last name, first name without punctuation; for example:
    • Campbell Joseph
    • Kroeber A L
    • Levi-Strauss Claude
  • SUBJECT searching requires use of Library of Congress subject headings. Here are some example subject headings:
    • Animal remains (Archaeology)
    • Basket making
    • Culture diffusion
    • Ethnomusicology
    • Excavations (Archaeology)
    • Folklore
    • Food habits
    • Human evolution
    • Israel--Antiquities
    • Mayas--Antiquities
    • Mythology
    • Petroglyphs
    • Physical anthropology
  • If you are unsure of the exact title or unsure of the correct Library of Congress subject heading, try a KEYWORD search using two or three of the most significant words from the title or subject you are trying to find.

Videos

To search for videos, use the Library catalog (the Books/Catalog link on the Libraries home page).

  • To limit by FORMAT in order to find multimedia, go to the Advanced Search in the Library Catalog and use the Limit Search By option.
  • To search for DVDs, video cassettes, and film, set Format to Video (all formats).
  • See the streaming video Finding Videos for a quick demonstration of searching the library catalog to find media.
