OpenAthens

How to use OpenAthens at UCF.

Create OpenAthens links by adding the OpenAthens Stem

A fast way to make any library content link work for off campus access is to paste the OpenAthens "stem" directly to the front of the URL.

UCF's OpenAthens stem: https://go.openathens.net/redirector/ucf.edu?url=

Example URLs with the OpenAthens stems:

  • An articlehttps://go.openathens.net/redirector/ucf.edu?url=https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S154146121830404X
  • Using a doihttps://go.openathens.net/redirector/ucf.edu?url=https://doi.org/10.1038/nature14092
  • A journal: https://go.openathens.net/redirector/ucf.edu?url=https://www.springer.com/journal/10822
  • Publisher sitehttps://go.openathens.net/redirector/ucf.edu?url=https://www.jstor.org/

Create OpenAthens links with the Link Generator

Use the OpenAthens Link Generator to add UCF's OpenAthens stem to one or more link. The Generator is the most reliable way to create a working link to library online content for on and off campus access.

Example Screenshot of the Link Generator.

Example of the link generator with a correctly generated link to JSTOR and an error link for Facebook.

This example shows the results of entering two URLs - one for Facebook (NOT a UCF library resource), and for JSTOR (a UCF Library subscribed resource).  The Facebook URL results in an error message "We can't generate an OpenAthens lik from this link."  The JSTOR URL generates an OpenAthens redirector link with URL encoding.
