APA Style Guide

References

The reference list is a separate page at the end of your paper or manuscript. The word References should be centered at the top of the page. List all resources used in the research and preparation of the paper.

You must follow a specific format for the reference list.

  • Double space all lines.
  • Use a hanging indent for all references.
  • Alphabetize the reference list by the last name, or surname, of the first author, followed by the initials of the author's given name.
  • Invert all authors' names; give surnames and initials for up to and including twenty authors
  • When authors number twenty or more, include the first nineteen author names, then insert ellipsis points, and add the last author's name.
