Microfilm is available in the UCF Library on the 3rd floor for several Florida newspapers from the 1800s and early 1900s. The newspapers are grouped together on reels labeled "Florida newspapers miscellaneous", of which the UCF Library has reels 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 21, and 22.
NOTE: For most of the newpapers, only a few issues are available and in many cases only a single daily issue. Some individual titles have issues spread out over several reels
The Florida Digital Newspaper Library provides online access to some of the newspapers.
Note that the number of counties and the county boundaries were significantly different prior to 1925, so the geographic areas covered by these newspapers may not be limited to what is considered their local area today. For example, in 1830 Alachua County stretched from the Georgia border to Ft. Myers, and Mosquito (Orange) County stretched from Ocala to West Palm Beach. Also, coverage of Florida news prior to 1900 might appear in newspapers from other states which had major ports or railroad lines connecting to Florida (e.g., Atlanta, Charleston, New Orleans, and Savannah).
Some of the microfilmed content is also available online in the Florida Digital Newspaper Library. There are separate catalog records for the microfilm and the online versions.
If there is online content available for a specific newspaper, the title is linked to the UCF Libraries' catalog record which includes a link to some online content. Even if some issues of the title have been made available online, there may be some issues not yet digitized and only available on microfilm (for now).
The dates following the titles are linked to the UCF Libraries' catalog records for the microfilm and provide more details about the specific dates available on the microfilm. Some newspapers do not yet have individual catalog records for the microfilm.
The newspapers are listed in the order they appear on the microfilm reel.
NOTE: Issues for each title are included throughout the reel in approximate chronological order.
NOTE: Many of the issues are those listing notices of tax sales.
