ASH 3222 -- Course Description and Objective
Course description
This course is a survey of Islamic Middle Eastern history from the rise of Islam in the 7th century to the rise of the Ottoman power in the Middle East in the 16th century. We will examine the emergence of Islam, the career of the Prophet Muhammad, early Islamic communities, the Caliphate and its function, and creation of early Islamic Empires. The course will terminate with the introduction of the Ottoman Empire.
