NUR 3825 Role of the Professional Nurse: 2. Elsevier Science Direct

Elsevier Science Direct

General Information:

Elsevier Science Direct is a scholarly database that provides access to scientific, technical, and medical literature. More than 2,000 journals are available containing more than 4 million articles prior to 1995 and approximately 2.75 million articles published after 1994.

Search Tips:

A Quick Search within “All Full Text Sources” is posted on Elsevier’s home page.

Clicking on the Search button (at the top of the page) allows you to access the Basic Search form, where you can search more than one field and limit by date.

Advanced Search allows you to enter your search screen directly and connect terms with Boolean operators.

Be sure to use a search form if you plan on saving your search.

You may browse journals by a specified subject area like Nursing and Health Professions; Psychology; and Economics, Ecometrics, and Finance. Each subject area page also lists the top 25 articles in the field.

The exclamation point (!) is used for truncation (various word endings). The asterisk (*) is used as a single character wildcard. Alternate spellings (e.g., color and colour) are automatically included in the search.

Articles can be displayed and sorted in a variety of ways. UCF does not get everything in full text.

Use your browser Print option to print. Other options include email, obtaining a list of articles that cite the article you found, export the article citation in RIS format for the citation management packages, Reference Manager, ProCiteor Endnote or in ASCII.

For More Help:

User Guides with how-to tutorials are provided. Be sure to review the “What’s New” tutorial to learn about the redesign, which was scheduled to be introduced in August 2006. Search tips and Help are also available by clicking on the appropriate buttons.
