NUR 3825 Role of the Professional Nurse: 3. EndNote and RefWorks

EndNote & Refworks

General Information:

Citation management programs allow you to collect and organize citations, as well as create bibliographies with ease.

The two most popular citation management products are Endnote and RefWorks. Both have similar features. Citation management programs help researchers:

  • Collect citations from online sources, including library catalogs and electronic databases.
  • Organize references by subject, project, author, or other schemes
  • Create bibliographies formatted according to MLA, APA, or other widely used citation styles.

While searching the libraries’ electronic databases, such as Academic Search Premier or CINAHL, you can easily export citations directly into your EndNote or RefWorks libraries. Probably the most popular feature is the ability to quickly & easily create and format in-text citations and bibliographies. Both programs work with Microsoft Word, allowing you to format your paper according to a specific citation style. Try EndNote or Refworks the next time you are working on a research paper!

Both EndNote and Refworks are available FREE to all current UCF faculty, staff and students. You can download or register for Endnote or Refworks from the following library web pages:

All UCF students and faculty may register online or download the programs. You must have a recognized UCF IP to download the program. Use the Proxy to get a UCF IP from off campus.

*Important Note*: Keep in mind that citations generated from databases (i.e. CINAHL, MedLine) and/or Citation Managers (i.e. EndNote and RefWorks) are not always 100% perfect, so be sure to double check with your APA manual and/or your instructor.

See below for specific information about each program.
