Women's and Gender Studies

About This Guide

This research guide identifies materials for basic and advanced research in women's and gender studies. It lists a variety of sources: databases, reference works, and Internet sites useful for the study of gender, feminism, and sexuality, including LGBTQ studies, as well as the related fields of cultural and ethnic studies.

In addition to this guide, researchers may wish to consult the UCF Libraries research guide, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Resources for a more comprehensive listing of LGBTQ+ resources.

Throughout this guide, the star denotes a basic or essential source.

Women and Gender at UCF

The mission of Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Questioning/Queer (LGBTQ+) Services is to connect our diverse student population to opportunities, resources, and each other to achieve the vision of a stronger, healthier, and more equitable world for LGBTQ+ people and allies.

The Women’s and Gender Studies program in the College of Arts and Humanities emphasizes intersectional approaches to the study of gender, race, class, ethnicity, and sexuality in national and transnational contexts. Course offerings examine social constructions of sex and gender and provide students with an opportunity to learn about women’s historical and contemporary roles, gain a working knowledge of interdisciplinary feminist scholarship, and reflect critically on their life experiences as shaped by gender and other forms of diversity. Courses are drawn from various departments and schools, including Anthropology, Art, Communication, Criminal Justice, Film, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Sociology, Theater, and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. Subcategories of focus include feminist theories, girl studies, queer studies, and global and transnational issues.

Women Student Union at UCF serves to embrace and support women of all backgrounds in the university and the local community. Their goal is to encourage and motivate women to step out of their comfort zone and achieve their goals and aspirations without limitations. This is done by providing women with resources to reach their personal, professional, and political goals.
