Children’s Literature Comprehensive database contains information about children’s books, videos and audio recordings, film strips and other children focused media. More than 300,000 critical reviews of children’s books are available. Books of particular merit, national, state and international awards, including the Newbery, Caldecott Medal, Coretta Scott King and Kate Greenaway, among others, are provided. More than 60 best book lists including the International Reading Association and the National Conference of Teachers of English are included. State reading lists are also included and updated annually. Various Reading Measurement Programs are included. The database is updated monthly.
You can search for items or browse a list of items. To search for items, enter your words or phrase in the Word Search Field, choose limiters and click Search. Both singular and plural forms of the word are searched as the default. A green dot means that one or more reviews are present.
Restricting your search to an Age will only search for books that have been reviewed.
In lieu of truncation, use the word variants option instead of the default, singular and plural forms.
From a page of search results, click on the New Search button to return to the search screen and begin a new search. Use the Back button on your browser or click on Modify Search to return to your current search.
To search for picture books try entering the phrase “picture books” in the text part of the search box and select Exact Phrase and an Age Level. More details are available in the tutorials.
Searching for a specific award list requires a different method. Select a book you know has won the award and then click on the hot link for that award. It will bring up the award winners.
