The majority of journals in this database is peer-reviewed and covers the fields of medicine, science, social science and the humanities. Many of the journals are published on behalf of international scholarly and professional societies. Articles include primary research, surveys, editorials, comments and book reviews. Journals are available in a subject cluster for browsing.
After logging in with your activated ID number, there is no need for further login. The default homepage has an area for All Journals by Subject. The list of these journals can be expanded by clicking on the plus sign (+) to the left of the subject area. As the subject areas for the journals are expanded, the list of available journals appears. The symbols to the left of a journal title are explained right above the journal list. Clicking on a journal title takes you to the listing of available issues. Links on a particular journal’s page also provide access to the most cited articles and most read articles in the journal. Clicking on Browse (in the blue tabs at the top of the screen) allows you to view an alphabetical list of journals.
The Advanced and Simple search options are available in the blue section in the middle of the homepage by clicking on either search type. The Advanced provides several text boxes for search terms and drop down fields that allow for more precise searching are available. Searching can be limited to Articles with Full Access Rights (full text), however with Interlibrary Loan, articles without full text can be requested so you may want to hold off on using this limiter when you search. Abstracts of articles are available. Articles in your search results are ranked by relevancy rather than date published. An option is available to order them by date if needed.
In this same blue section is Quicklink. This allows you to quickly search for a particular journal via the citation information.
You can narrow or limit your search by searching within the results of an existing search. Look for this section in the blue area on the right hand side of the screen of a page of search results. You can modify your original search or start a new Advanced or Simple search by clicking on these options in the same area.
