General Information:

LexisNexis Academic provides full-text documents from over 350 newspaper, 300 magazines and journals, over 600 newsletters, radio and television transcripts, polls and surveys, legal sources, business data, medical and health information, and non-English language sources.

Search Tips:

General Search Tab

  • Easy Search – this is the default screen
    • There are 6 foms on the Easy Search page allowing you to search for the following:
      • Search the News (1980 to today)
        • Choose which sources to search (Major World Publications, Newspapers, Magazines, Wire Services, Broadcast Transcripts, Blogs, or All News)
      • Look up a Legal Case (US & state cases)
      • Get Company Info (43 million companies)
      • Research Countries (socioeconomic profiles & news)
      • Research People (covers public figures)
      • Combined Search (search multiple kind of content)
    • You can search within your results
    • Left side of the screen gives the number of articles by category of sources such as newspapers and newsletters
  • Power Search – click to access for more in-depth research
    • Type in your topic in the Search Terms box
    • Select sources by Type or Name
    • Select date from drop-down menu
      • Searching tips
        • Select Natural Language to search for phrases – use quotation marks
        • Select Terms and Connectors to use the following
          • Connectors – use AND, OR, AND NOT to combine search terms
          • Truncation – use ! to replace one or more letters at the end of a word
          • Wildcards – use * to replace a letter within a word
    • Search a specific source(s), for example Florida newspapers
      • Click on Browse Sources
      • Under Browse Sources click on News & Business Topics
      • Select United States from Countries drop-down menu
      • Select Florida from All Regions drop-down menu
      • Click on folder for General News Sources
      • Click in the box to the left of desired title(s).
      • Select newspapers to search
      • Click on OK - Continue. Sources are added to Power Search form.
      • Click on Search
